I was sent this video and don’t know if anyone was aware of it or if this has been posted before but in Russia there is a religion known as Vissarion’s Church of the Last Testament where their leader who was formerly known as Sergey Anatolyevitch Torop who goes by Vissarion believes he is the Messiah. According to the video, there are 5,000 followers worldwide with 2,000 followers actually living on site with Vissarion. I found it pretty odd but very interesting and wanted to share it on here. https://youtu.be/W2Cv5hZfOmk

Don't you think that some people are just better off within the org?
by paradiseseeker inthis is my first post, i will introduce myself later.
first of all, i must say that english is not my mother tongue (i'm spanish), so excuse me if i make any mistake.. do you think that some people simply can't cope with being outside the jws?
some of them are too worldlyphobic to be around non-jws, too dependent on a fixed set of rules in order to carry on with their lives, too dependent on the hope of paradise and resurrection, too unable to leave their personal comfort zone within the organization.

I’m very unsure about the answer to this question. I had a relative tell me that without the Org, she would be lost in life. To me that’s very telling about how much control the org plays in their life. I feel like in that case yes, they would be better off in the organization because outside of it they couldn’t last.

One of the things I disliked about moving to a new congregation
by Jules Saturn ini hope i’m not the only one who experienced this but i hated it when we moved to a new congregation and another family from the congregation we were in would move to the same congregation basically following us.
and it was annoying because i always felt like there was this competition over privileges and participation during the meetings with this particular family.
it was so annoying.

Matthew 24:34 not fulfilled in the first century
by Jules Saturn ini was discussing with an elder the generation teaching and telling him when jesus christ says in matthew 24:34 “truly i say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen.” he was referring to the generation from the first century in 33 ad and these events that were to take place took place with the destruction of jerusalem in 70 ad.
now the elder tells me to go back to a few verses to from verses 29-33 which read: .
“immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened,+ and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.+ 30 then the sign of the son of man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief,+ and they will see the son of man+ coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

I was discussing with an elder the generation teaching and telling him when Jesus Christ says in Matthew 24:34 “Truly I say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen.” he was referring to the generation from the first century in 33 AD and these events that were to take place took place with the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
Now the elder tells me to go back to a few verses to from verses 29-33 which read:
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened,+ and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.+ 30 Then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief,+ and they will see the Son of man+ coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.*+31 And he will send out his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity.+
32 “Now learn this illustration from the fig tree: Just as soon as its young branch grows tender and sprouts its leaves, you know that summer is near.+33 Likewise also you, when you see all these things, know that he is near at the doors.+
He then explains to me that this did not take place in the first century because yes, while Jerusalem was destroyed and earthquakes and all the things Jesus spoke of did occur, they did not witness the sign of the Son of man. He also explained that in verse 31 which refers to the angel and his great trumpet sound, that sounds directly from the book of Revelation, so the connection is being made there with the context of what we see today in our world.
What do you think?

Unprivileged
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho insomething just dawned on me today as i processed my assimilation into the real world (thanks to our new poster, @jester, giving me a major throwback to my first post).. when you're a jehovah's witness, you really are in some sort of la la land.
things which are perfectly normal are acts of eating from the table of the demons.
things which are horribly grotesque and extremely unjust are branded as "righteousness".

Love this post and I definitely agree. To me what’s crazy is the whole culture of the Witnesses. For an example how here in the States if you were to see a gentleman with a beard you’d jump to the conclusion that he isn’t a brother with privileges, let alone a brother.

“...in the name of our Lord Jesus” explanation please?
by Jules Saturn ini am looking for someone to please clear this up.
there are scriptures like in the 1 corinthians chapter 5 that refer to jesus as “our lord jesus”.
the lord is jehovah, why does that scripture in 1 corinthians refer to the lord as jesus?

I am looking for someone to please clear this up. There are scriptures like in the 1 Corinthians chapter 5 that refer to Jesus as “our Lord Jesus”. The Lord is Jehovah, why does that scripture in 1 Corinthians refer to the Lord as Jesus?
The JW perspective of this is that Jesus is a god. The same way that Satan is also a god. But Jehovah is the God. It is a bit confusing because I thought it was monotheism not polytheism, where you believe in more than one god.
John 1:1-3 reads: 1
In the beginning was the Word,+ and the Word was with God,+ and the Word was a god.*+ 2 This one was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into existence through him,+ and apart from him not even one thing came into existence. Can someone explain this scripture? Is the NWT the only translation of the Bible to be translated as “Word was a god” instead of “the Word was God”.
Which is right?

I recommend this video here. It’s applicable to JWs and I think after watching this video you’ll be able to understand why intelligent people, whether it may be doctors or lawyers or scientists join religions or high control groups.

The Big Sick - movie discussion
by traveb ini watched this movie recently, which is about a pakistani immigrant living in chicago who falls in love with a white woman.
i was struck by the similarities to the jw culture when the main character experiences trials with his traditional muslim family.
essentially, he is shunned and his parents refuse to talk to him.

I saw this movie this past summer and it definitely touched my heart, especially because I currently face a very similar situation. Watching the movie made me see how similar the Witnesses are to Islamic beliefs. Especially the way they just cut you off. It could be the person who gave birth to you that will coldly tell you “You are not my son anymore.”

Where in the bible does it say that the governments will turn on the religions. Like the Dubs always say this will happen
by goingthruthemotions ini have not been here in a while, just trying to move on with my life all the while dealing with a very pimi brainwashed wife.. so the other day she started saying that we will have to go our own ways when things get worse with this world.
she has said this before because she believes that the government will turn on religion and the great and powerful wizards (guardians of doctrine g.o.d.
) will call everyone and tell them where to go.. thank god, (no pun intended) i have been out of the loop for such a long time.

When the Witnesses were banned in Russia I was told by a sister that maybe the world’s governments were gonna attack the Witnesses first and then false religion would fall after. I don’t think she recognized how deluded she sounded.
